Hello all,
I have a neck that I built a couple years ago and would like to use, but need to ask you all a question before I do. The width at the nut is 11/16 inch and the width at the 14th fret is 2 1/16. Normally, I make my necks 2 1/8 inch at the 14th fret. I have a premade martin-style bridge with the standard string spacing. Would the 1/16 inch difference really matter? What would you all recommend?

Thanks in advance for any advice.
Glen

I assume you mean 1 11/16 at the nut. Careful nut slotting can make this work. The taper will not match the contour of the neck perfect but you can make it work.

Another thing you can do is slot the saddle. You'll want to do this to the more narrow scale and then the strings will widen to the pins.
but I think the REAL answer is to make a new bridge with the proper pin spacing.

For what its worth I always make my necks the same width at the 12th fret as the pin to pin width at the bridge. This allow the neck to become wider as you move toward the saddle giving the strings a little more wiggle room up there where there looser and have a better chance of slipping off the edge.

I think I would draw out your measurements in full scale to determine the correct string placement at the nut to be sure you get it right.
